Michael Gurian is a marriage and family counselor and the New York Times bestselling author of 28 books, including his new book: Saving Our Sons: A New Path for Raising Healthy and Resilient Boys, The Wonder Of Boys, The Minds of Boys, and Boys and Girls Learn Differently. He is co-founder of The Gurian Institute and a pioneer in the fields of family development and education. His work brings brain-science into homes, schools, churches, corporations, and public policy. Appearing on Today, Good Morning America, Fox News, NPR, the 700 Club, Focus on the Family, and in the New York Times, USA Today, Time, and Newsweek, Michael is credited with sparking the modern boys movement.

Tim Wright has been a Lutheran Pastor since 1984. He currently serves as the pastor of Community of Grace in Peoria (Phoenix), Arizona, which he founded in 2005. He has trained pastors and church leaders throughout the U.S. and around the world and has written six books including, Searching for Tom Sawyer: How Parents and Congregations Can Stop The Exodus of Boys from Church.

In 2015 the World Health Organization published a major study of mens’ and boys’ health worldwide. In it the study’s authors—from Europe, the U.S., and Asia—provided statistics and analysis from all continents, including the most comprehensive health study worldwide to date, the Global Burden of Disease Study led by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation. The study concludes: In most of the world, girls and women are doing better than boys and men in both physical and mental health indicators…In most parts of the world, health outcomes among boys and men continue to be substantially worse than among girls and women.
Yet this gender-based disparity in health has received little national, regional, or global acknowledgment or attention from health policy makers or healthcare providers.

FAST FACTS : BOYS IN THE 21ST CENTURY
1 // 70-90% of all boys will leave the Christian Church in their teens or early 20s, and most won’t come back.
2 // Boys have fallen behind girls in every area of education from Preschool through Graduate school.
3 // 85% of stimulant-addressing medications (like Ritalin) prescribed in the world are prescribed to U.S. boys.
4 // America has the highest rates of male incarceration per capita of any country in the world. Among males 17 or younger, the boy-to-girl ratio in correctional institutions is 9:1. Among 18-21 year olds, the ratio grows to 14:1.
5 // Boys are twice as likely as girls to be victims of violence in America, but in certain age groups the ratio is 6:1.
6 // Boys receive two-thirds of the D’s and F’s in our schools but less than 40 percent of the A’s.
7 // Boys are twice as likely as girls to be labeled as “emotionally disturbed” and twice as likely to be diagnosed with a behavioral or learning disorder.
8 // Boys are four times as likely as girls to be suspended or expelled from early childhood and K-12 learning environments.
9 // Over the last 20 years the reading skills of 17-year-old boys have steadily declined.
