{"id":110,"date":"2015-11-04T11:34:23","date_gmt":"2015-11-04T11:34:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.helpingboysthrive.org\/hcbt\/?page_id=110"},"modified":"2015-11-05T17:21:11","modified_gmt":"2015-11-05T17:21:11","slug":"faq","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/helpingboysthrive.org\/hcbt\/faq\/","title":{"rendered":"FAQ"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/1&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/1&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h3><b>How Many People and What People Should I Have on My Organizational Team?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p2\">You and a team of two to three others will be the\u00a0<b>core group<\/b>\u00a0putting on the\u00a0<i>Helping Christian Boys Thrive Summit.<\/i>\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Building a team with people from like-minded organizations will give you a greater reach.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Other donors, sponsors, and helpers will emerge from your core group\u2019s efforts.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>In your core group, you will want at least one highly organized person, very good with details; you may also want one person who has experience with PR, and one person who has done some fundraising before.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>The key person is your leader.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>This is the person who will inspire your team with the vision for this event.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>This may or may not be you, but you will certainly play an important role in making this event compelling and high-impact.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">You will want people you like, enjoy working with, and want to spend time with over the next several months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">It is likely that all or most of your core team will have raised or worked with boys and seen the issues boys face in today\u2019s world, or be otherwise involved in helping\u00a0<b>raise, educate, disciple, or mentor boys and young men.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h3><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.helpingboysthrive.org\/hcbt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/boys-554644-e1445879002506.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-39\" src=\"http:\/\/www.helpingboysthrive.org\/hcbt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/boys-554644-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"boys-554644\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a>What Amounts of Money Might Donors Provide?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p2\">All the basic costs of the event may come through donations, underwriting\u00a0and co-sponsorships.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><b>Donors can contribute $5,000, $3,000, $1,000, $500.00 or less or more.<\/b>\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>The amount of money you receive for underwriting will depend on how vigorously your team pursues donations\/underwriting, including what contacts you and your team already have in organizations, businesses, and agencies.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>In the Organizational Packet, you\u2019ll receive a suggested list of possible donor levels and possible rewards for donors as well as an already created letter\/email to donors that you can modify and use.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h3><b>Who Are Potential Donors\/Underwriters?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p2\">Potential financial donors include\u00a0<b>like-minded congregations, public and private organizations and foundations, businesses and corporations, and individual philanthropists<\/b>\u00a0who have a stake in child development, child faith formation, family development, and social and community health and wellbeing. In your\u00a0<i>organizational packet<\/i>\u00a0(provided by\u00a0<i>Tim Wright Ministries\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0<i>The Gurian Institute)<\/i>, you will receive ready-to-send materials with which to approach donors and underwriters:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li2\"><b>Local Congregations.\u00a0<\/b>If your church can be a donor (or even sponsor\u2026see below), you will most likely save a lot of money on space and venue, a well as gain immediate access to outreach. The more congregations supporting this event the better.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><b>Local Christian organizations\u00a0<\/b>like a local Christian Thrift Store, a denominational office, or The Salvation Army (any Christian agencies who work with young people).<\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><b>Christian Schools\u00a0<\/b>represent a primary audience for an event like this and may want to be a part of donating to it, sponsoring it and promoting it.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><b>Non-profits<\/b>\u00a0<b>organizations.<\/b>\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>These would include United Way, YMCA, Boy Scouts, Big Brothers\/Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Clubs, as well as foundations and, quite possibly, universities or colleges.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li2\"><b>Counseling and psychiatric agencies can become underwriters<\/b>.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Any mental health agency or organization can be a potential donor, especially those who work with Christian families.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><b>Corporations or Businesses<\/b>\u00a0can be approached.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>These include businesses that set aside some money every year for corporate giving; as well as HMOs, physicians, and others who want exposure for their businesses and services.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>This can also include Christian business owners you already know, your friends or acquaintances who own businesses (many of whom have sons and have faced issues with boys in school or life), and your team\u2019s friends and acquaintances.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>You may have business people in your congregation who might want to donate to the event (or help sponsor it\u2014see #4).<\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><b>In-kind donors<\/b>\u00a0can include print, TV and radio media that donate in kind contributions of on-air time as well as print features and\/or advertising.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Venues and food companies can be in kind donors, donating a location, keynote room, breakout room, and AV equipment as well as morning coffee and noontime lunch.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><b>Don\u2019t be afraid to ask.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Don\u2019t be shy about giving people and organizations an opportunity to be a change-agent for boys.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h3><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.helpingboysthrive.org\/hcbt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/photo-e1446639813994.jpg\"><img https:\/\/helpingboysthrive.org\/hcbt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/photo-e1446639813994.jpg 1036w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Are There Other Sources of Underwriting for the Event?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p2\">Yes.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>These sources are:\u00a0<b>co-sponsor funding, exhibitor tables, and ticket sales<\/b>.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li2\"><b>Co-sponsors<\/b>\u00a0might give a great deal in financial grants and\/or in kind contributions.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>They are \u201cco-sponsors\u201d rather than \u201cdonors\u201d in that their names will appear, along with your organization, the\u00a0<i>Gurian Institute<\/i>, and\u00a0<i>Tim Wright Ministries<\/i>, on the playbill as \u201cSponsored by\u2026\u201d or \u201cPresented by\u2026.\u201d\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><i>A powerful symbol to the community is to see a variety of congregations and religious organizations working together across denominational lines for a common goal<\/i>.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>The co-sponsors will most likely be organizations that fill in a gap you and your organization might have.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>For instance, if you lead a faith community, you might need a Christian counseling center as co-sponsor in order to expand your reach.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>If you lead a faith-based organization you might want some congregations to join you as sponsors so that you can draw in local churches.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>All this said, you may well decide you do not need a co-sponsor.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>It all depends on how and with whom you want to fund the event.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><b>Exhibitors<\/b>\u00a0can be asked to pay $200 or more (or less, depending on your team\u2019s decision regarding exhibitor fees) for an exhibitor table at which to sell their products.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><b>Ticket sales<\/b>\u00a0generate a great deal of income.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Depending on how much financial underwriting you receive, you will be able to determine how high or low to make the ticket price for the event.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>You will want to charge each participant something so that the event has value to them.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><b>CEU hours and Participation Hours\u00a0<\/b>can help generate attendees.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>The hours that professionals (educators, therapists, etc) spend with Michael Gurian can count toward CEU hours if you bring in an organization that can give CEUs.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>The six hour day can provide all participants with six Participant Hours (especially useful for educators).\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Church leaders can use the whole event for CEUs if they wish..<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p2\">For the nuts and bolts of all this, as in all other areas in these FAQs, the\u00a0<i>Tim Wright Ministries<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0<i>Gurian Institute\u00a0<\/i>teams will mentor you as needed.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h3><b>Will a Profit Be Made on the Summit?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p2\">There is no way to guarantee a profit beforehand, but if the event is well organized, a profit should be forthcoming.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>With some of the necessities donated as in kind contributions, and some of the financing coming into the event from co-sponsors, donors, philanthropists, exhibitors, and other stakeholders; and with help from media and grass roots and other outreach to create a large event audience, the event should make\u00a0<b>a healthy profit.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><i>If a profit is made, 10% will go to Tim Wright Ministries and 10% to the Gurian Institute; the rest goes where your committee wants\u2014toward a follow up Summit, into a local organization working with boys, toward your church, etc.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/b>We believe this event can be used as a Benefit for a church, if the church wishes to be its primary sponsor.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>With an 80% profit rate, the church could find significant financial return on the event.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h3><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.helpingboysthrive.org\/hcbt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/photo-2-e1446640421154.jpg\"><img a Summit?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p2\">Each congregation, city and region has different needs, so the answer to this question will be a local one.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Our team can help you and your team in the discussion based on the many events we are involved in every year.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><b>Some quick tips we\u2019ve learned<\/b>:\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Check schedules closely for 1) competing major events on the day of your Summit, and 2) competing school\/vacation schedules, e.g. Spring Break.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>It is generally useful to avoid doing an event in the summer in most locations, i.e. it is generally best to wait until the kids are back in school (after Labor Day, etc.).\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>For a spring event, it is often useful to have the event a few weeks before most schools will end for the year.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h3><b>How Do I\/We Move Forward with the
